Black Friday is coming up and since I did a gift guide in 2017, 2018 and 2019, it is time to share the 2020 version of the gift guide.
Let’s be honest. 2020 didn’t turn out the way anyone had planned. And if 2020 showed us anything, it’s that it is important to stay safe and stay healthy. So, it’s time to get some new running gear and gadgets for yourself or the runner in your life.
One way to stay safe is by wearing a mask in certain settings. Over here we just need to wear them in indoor public spaces, but this depends per country obviously. Some examples of sports related masks are those from Adidas and Reebok. Personally I have a couple from Tailwind Nutrition.
It’s getting darker outside, so it’s important to stay visible. One way to do that is with a light. I still use the runlight from Decathlon, which you can charge and the light is adjustable so you’re not blinding anyone.
Another way to stay visible is through what you’re wearing. And Brooks now has an entire reflective collection, including a reflective running jacket.

And just like every year, Brooks also has Christmas themed clothing, including a shirt and a beanie.

It’s not only getting darker, it’s also getting colder and there’s more rain. It’s that time of year that you need a pair of Gore-Tex running shoes. I really enjoy my Mizuno Wave Rider GTX shoes, but I also enjoy my Nike Pegasus Trail 2 shoes and there is a GTX version of those too now. I’m also considering getting the Brooks Ghost 13 in the GTX version.

Speaking of shoes, shoes with a carbon plate are very popular, but also very expensive. Most of them are €200 or more. But there are a few that are less. Such as the Adidas Adizero Pro, Hoka One One Rocket X and Carbon X and the Saucony Endorphin Speed which has a Nylon plate.
Another way to keep safe while running is by making sure you’re not closed off from the world around you. Bone conduction headphones are the perfect combination between listening to audio, but also being aware of your surroundings. AfterShokz has launched a new budget model this year, the OpenMove, so everyone can enjoy bone conduction headphones.
Running clothes are also a way to get yourself motivated and out the door. Personally I sometimes wear marathon gear or christmas related running gear to get myself out the door on some of those gloomier days. But it doesn’t have to be race or christmas related. Just a pair of funky tights might do the trick as well. Röhnisch, Bara and Stronger are just a few examples of companies that have colourful tights.

You could also go for a quirky pair of socks instead. Brooks has a pair of christmas socks and so does Stance. Or you could go for a pair of Baby Yoda socks.

In conclusion, there are lots of options and I’m sure there will be some great deals out there this Black Friday. So I’ll definitely do some online shopping.
